Following rave reviews from the Badminton Radio commentators yesterday at Badminton Horse Trials, Lincolnshire-based business The Little Tweed Co. has been revealed as the designers behind the creation that got everyone talking.
The Little Tweed Company, run by equestrian enthusiast and farmer’s wife Heather Oldfield from her family farmhouse in rural Lincolnshire, designed and handmade a unique, colourful jacket to get competitor Katie Preston hot to trot in the style stakes at the world-famous competition.
As well as a range of tweed accessories including headbands, capes and children’s clothes, Heather and her team design and hand make stunning bespoke creations like Katie’s ‘designer skew-whiff’ masterpiece, as seen on the famous Badminton trot-up strip yesterday.
Heather explained: ‘We were absolutely thrilled with the rave reviews for Katie’s jacket at the Badminton trot-up! It is a much-loved element of the event, with riders and designers going all out, so we knew we had to make something special for Katie.
“The most important thing was for us to make a stylish, stand-out jacket that would stay true to The Little Tweed Company’s country roots and offer excellent movement for Katie on the strip, while remaining feminine and elegant.
“Katie wanted to wear something beautiful and bright but also practical. We designed the jacket with varied angles to flow with her movement when running alongside her horse TJ, used green to represent the countryside, and partnered it with pinks and purples to bring femininity to the angular structure. We also included a touch of leather edging to capture the equestrian heart of the piece.
“All of our bespoke creations are made in close collaboration with the wearer, using beautiful, quality tweed and colour pairings to suit each individual person. The Little Tweed Co. was born from my love for all things country, inspired by my Lincolnshire home, and I’m so delighted that Katie, and the spectators, loved her Badminton jacket. We look forward to seeing her and TJ in the competition and will be cheering them on!”
All eyes will be on Katie and her handsome horse Templar Justice, fondly known as TJ, this year, having been selected as leading equestrian blog site Haynet’s ‘One to Watch’ for the 5* event, which showcases some of the world’s best eventing talent.
