The top lot at Ireland’s 8th Monart Select Event Horse Sale is heading to Canada to begin his eventing career after being purchased by Canadian Event Rider, Katlyn Hewson-Slezak for €29,000.
Returning after a successful 2016 trip, Karl and Katlyn Hewson-Slezak have added three more young Irish horses to their Canadian yard this evening including top Lot, the Garrison Royale Gelding, FLS Piltown Bay.
The Slezak’s also purchased Lot 27, a 4yr old bay Mare by VDL Arkansas and the other FLS horse brought forward to the sale, FLS Major Bounce.
Speaking after the Sale Katlyn said “it is our third trip to the Monart Sale and we love coming! We have just sold last year’s purchase to an exciting up and coming young Canadian rider and are looking forward to watching them progress. As for my purchase this year, I am keeping hold of him and will produce him with the top levels in mind. We love the Monart Sale and we were able to get a really good feel for the horses again this year. The opportunity to try as many horses as we did was really valuable and I am very excited about my new boy’s future, he’s a really sweet horse and the vendors were happy to talk us through anything we wanted to know. An amazing experience all round.”
All horses presented to leading Irish vet Marcus Swail and his team on Monday passed sending 80 horses forward to this years’ auction. With a clearance rate of 79% Monart Sale Director Niall Griffin commented, “Probably the most exciting part of this years’ Sale, was the number of professional event riders from all over the world. To be in the position to raise the number of horses going through to the sale again this year, while at the same time keeping (if not improving) the standard along with raising the average price from €9,800 to €12,500 speaks volumes in the confidence that our buyers have in us. With this years’ sale horses heading off around the world, I really hope that all of our buyers enjoy their new purchases and I wish them all the luck in the future.”
The 8th Monart Sale took place at the Monart Equestrian Centre, Enniscorthy, Ireland and was attended by some of the World’s best event riders including the likes of British Number one Oliver Townend, ERM Series Winner Gemma Tattersall, German Olympian Kai Ruder, French Gold Medallist Astier Nicolas (who take four sale graduates home to France with him), Italian Team rider Giovanni Ugolotti, GBR Young Rider Team eventers Emily King and Sam Ecroyd and Irish Olympian’s Austin O’Connor and Michael and Trish Ryan among many other famous faces.
